Vaishali Patel
New Design Britain finalist
Vaishali Patel, a Decorative Arts graduate from the Nottingham Trent University, has designed Japanese print fabric.
Vaishali finds birds fascinating and beautiful creatures, which is shown through her patterns, and having always been inspired by Japanese culture, it led her to the geometric shapes found in origami folds. This combination of natural forms with the geometry of origami inspired her to create these interesting patterns that add something different to today’s market, seen in the range of interior products that she has produced.
All of her pieces are hand screen-printed, which she feels brings her skills and individuality to each one. The fabric drops become the focal point that are visually interesting to observe with the two layers enabling the viewer to capture the elements found in Japanese art and culture.
The fabrics used such as the fine organza overall completes the piece with it connoting elegance and simplicity allowing the viewer to also see the geometric backgrounds.
