John Stefanidis and Ed Godrich have taken on the challenge and now it’s Nina Campbell’s turn. We are excited to announce that next year’s impressive entrance to Decorex International will be designed by the world-renowned British designer, who will put her own inspired stamp on this unique feature that has become a prominent part of every visitors experience. Ed Godrich’s beautiful showcase at this year’s Decorex International wowed visitors with two exquisite room settings which demonstrated diverse styles and distinctive furniture pieces from a range of exhibitors within the event.

The entrance gives the perfect setting for visitors to enter the show and be introduced to the stunning products showcased throughout the event, each year bringing something completely different and unique, which is why we can’t wait to see Nina’s designs for the 2010 event.

Nina Campbell is known for her beautiful interiors as well as for her collections of luxurious fabrics, wallpapers, accessories, carpets and home fragrance.  

Nina commented on her involvement, “It’s a huge honour to have been asked to decorate the entrance area at Decorex International this year, especially as it’s a big window on what people will find inside. It’s exciting to work with so many  different suppliers and we have several ideas we look forward to announcing. It’s important to create a sense of glamour and excitement after what has been a difficult year. Decorex International is so important to trade – I believe that British design is at the forefront and this is simply the best place for the world to see it.”

The designers of tomorrow…

Ricky Mercer, a Textile Design graduate from Birmingham City University showcased one of his wallpaper designs in the Decorex restaurant this year. In a collaboration with Tektura, the wallcovering was specifically created using Ricky’s creative inspiration. His ‘La Candalaria’ Wallpaper design, invited a visit to his fantasy world, the lion’s kingdom, where Brighton meets the Far East and human riches and nature abound, intertwine and thrive.  But it is not only Ricky Mercer from Birmingham City University (BCU), who has

been a part of a unique collaboration. At interiors 2010 - the UK’s largest trade interiors event held 24-27 January at NEC, Birmingham – BCU students will demonstrate how to apply trend forecasts from Global Color Research to both contract and domestic environments in an inspiring installation.

The project will unleash the ideas of 120 students with the support of 10 industry engaged academics within the ‘Thinking Space’, a key feature area at interiors this year.  The trends, provided by Global Color Research, entitled Whisper, Spirit, Genteel and Risk will be conceptualised by MA Interior Design Students and produced by BA (Hons) Lighting and Textile students under the leadership of curator and designer Stefan Bench and exhibition specialist John Hall.

Joanna Birch, Head of Enterprise Development, comments; “We are delighted to be collaborating once again with Global Color Research Limited - Mix Publications and UBM Live and we’re really looking forward to seeing how the students develop the next set of trends into their own workable concepts”.

It will be a fantastic showcase of Midlands based talent which will move on from interiors to tour around the London interiors events and onto Interiors UAE in Abu Dhabi.  It highlights the huge potential of industry and education collaborating together to deliver innovative, dynamic solutions in a very cost effective way.

The ARC Show 2010 is to preview four stunning light installations from the Kinetica Art Fair. Featuring at the show for the first time, these have been designed by three leading artists, with one exclusive to The ARC Show 2010. Stretching the boundaries of design, these bespoke sculptures celebrate kinetic lighting design as a truly unique art. The first of these moving installations is inspired by organic life, consisting of seven ‘S’ neons in seven different shades of blue. This design will only be shown at The ARC Show 2010. The installation’s designer, Roger Vilder, will also show a perception neon mounted works at the event.  Paul Friedlander will install a freestanding ‘Wave’ sculpture, which utilises his

technique of Chromastrobic light developed by Friedlander in 1983. With this technique, Chromastrobic light changes colour faster than the eye can see which the brain then strings together into a smooth sequence making light appear white.

The third sculpture, called ‘Lets Bounce’, draws inspiration from astronomy and metaphysics, reflecting constant motions, cyclical patterns and kinetic energies that are universally present in our surroundings. This installation uses spun light to produce volume form.

The Kinetica Art Fair is an annual event specialising in kinetic, electronic and new media art. These four installations will be shown at The ARC Show, a trade event dedicated to architectural, retail and commercial lighting, from 3-4 February at Earls Court Two.
