Now into its 3rd year, the Heico Fasteners Design Competition will again be setting design inspired upholstery students the challenge of creating a chair incorporating the company’s unique and innovative decorative nails.
Students from leading upholstery training centres the London Metropolitan University (LMU), Wendy Shorter Interiors of Hertfordshire, Traditional Upholstery Workshop in Carmarthenshire and Tresithick Upholstery in Cornwall, have already submitted their initial mood boards and 10 designs have now been chosen to go forward to the final round where the finished pieces will then be judged by a panel headed again this year by the respected former president of the AMUSF, Joan Milton.
The competition offers these design inspired upholsterers of the future the opportunity to showcase their talents to a wider audience at the UK’s premier interior design event, Interiors UK.
This year’s entrants were tasked with basing their designs around Heico’s innovative ‘Powder Coated’ nails as well as their exciting ‘Crystal’ nails. The Powder Coated nails are available in an array of unique finishes including the striking ‘Silver Black’ and the textured ‘Gold White’ and, along with the luxurious ‘Crystal’ range, are the inspiration for this years’ competition. The winning pieces will be displayed on Heico Fasteners UK’s stand at the Interiors UK exhibition (22nd – 25th January at the NEC) where the results of the competition will be officially un-veiled and prizes awarded, with the further co-operation of the Association of Master Upholsters and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF). The winner and 2 runner-up designs will all receive prizes.
