FAQ's about the move
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why is the show moving?
A. Over the course of the last year we have conducted in depth research with representatives from all areas of the furniture and interior design industries. The research conclusively showed that the market wants a May furniture event. The Furniture Show at May Design Series will represent the needs indentified by the industry and ensure the best buying and selling opportunity for visitors and exhibitors alike.
Q. What will the show be called?
A. The Furniture Show, at May Design Series
Q. How long will the show run for?
A. 3 days
Q . How will the show be divided?
The show will be split into 5 sectors – The Furniture Show, Lighting DX, Decor, Kitchen and bathroom. This may increase and include Flooring and Office if we have sufficient demand.
Q.What are the benefits of exhibiting at ExCeL London?
A. The NEC and Birmingham are in reality still largely unknown to the global buyer and manufacturer. Birmingham is seen as too far away from mainland Europe to exhibit or visit and for buyers they don’t particularly enjoy Birmingham as a location because it doesn’t have a great night life and atmosphere and its hotels are increasingly overpriced during show time. ExCeLl is a tried and tested venue used to hosting major exhibitions. The boat show is held at Excel and runs without hitch!
Q. How much will the show cost?
A. The show will still be free for visitors. Stand costs will need to be discussed with your dedicated sales representative.
Q . What size will the stands be?
A. Stands will be capped at a maximum of 200m2.
Q. Will contractors charge more to build a show in London?
A. No, we don’t anticipate any increase costs for stand build.
Q. How long will build up be?
a. Exhibitors will have 4 days to build up and 2 to breakdown. Unlike at other venues, there is no build up and breakdown charges/deposit systems.
Q. How is traffic managed at Excel?
A. ExCeL London has 7.2m drive in doorways, 3 way lorryway for build-up/break-down and does not charge a loading deposit. There is also a marshalling area for 300 vehicles and car parking for 4000 cars.
Q. Will hotels be expensive?
A. With 6 hotels onsite and 40 recommended by Excel within 20 minutes away we are sure you will find a good deal and enjoy the wider range of accommodation options open to you. We will be working with our hotel provider Event Express to make sure we secure the best hotel rates we can for our exhibitors and visitors.
Unlike around other exhibition centres, hotel rooms do not increase during show times. Average hotel rooms onsite at Excel are £120 per room per night.
Q. What refreshments are available at ExCeL London?
A. The Central Boulevard contains 40 restaurants and cafes ranging from Subway to high end restaurants. It caters to all food groups and budgets.
Q. Will northern visitors travel?
A. Our marketing campaigns will continue to target the whole of the UK’s regions and we will be running a dedicated recruitment campaign to our Northern visitors to encourage their continued participation.
Q. How will we attract more international buyers?
A. London is serviced by 320 flight routes (whereas Birmingham has only 110) into 5 major airports. London City Airport is on ExCeL London’s doorstep and offers low cost domestic and International flights. There are also more than 350 train links into London. We are expecting a positive impact on attendance levels and an improved quality of visitor from across the country and overseas.
